Lime Rock Red

Lime Rock Red
1 pint glass, $3.75, 6% ABV

Purchased at Cambridge House Brew Pub, Granby

redNothing makes me happier than local breweries/brewpubs naming beers after local places or people of significance. (Okay, many things make me happier than that. Hell, this yogurt with granola I’m eating right now is of at least equal happiness level… but you know what I mean.)

Lime Rock is, of course, the historic and iconic race track way, WAY out in Salisbury. I’d be curious to know how many people who drink this beer in Granby know about Lime Rock – let alone have been to it. Who knows.

I’ve been there (of course I have) and it’s really, really cool. And I don’t give a crap about car racing in the least. It is now that I would love to link to my page about my day at Lime Rock, but since it happened only 15 months ago, I’ve not yet written it up.

I’m lame.

You know what else is lame? This beer. Not that it’s CHB’s fault or the brewer’s fault; not at all. It’s just a lame type of beer. I mean… red ale?

CHB Says:

Smooth and malty red ale with feisty finish.

LimeRock-539__1223475604_8397Nah. There was nothing “feisty” about this beer at all. Let me be clear: It was bad in any way – it actually has a nice balance of hop character (more than you’d expect from an amber) and malty backbone. But in the end, it’s just an amber ale.

Have I gotten to the point where I demand “unique” flavor profiles? Or superior quality? No, I don’t think so. I definitely have my “types” of beers that I love – for now. I’m sure that will change as I get older. Heck, maybe I’ll start drinking scotch or whiskey instead.

(I doubt that.)

Anyway, short review of this one:

Lime Rock Park: Awesome.
Lime Rock Red: Definitely passable, but just a bit blah
Lime (fruit): Wonderful and delicious
Lime (that stuff on grass): Useful
Rock (music): Enduring
Rock (hard thing): heavy
Red: Nice color and all, but honestly not a good lingerie look, ladies.

Overall Rating: C
Rating vs. Similar style: B-
