Day 5, Sête

July 14 (Bastille Day)

I’d guess that anywhere in France on Bastille Day is fun. But spending it in the charming completely non-touristy little seaside village of Sête was simply awesome. THIS is the way to spend a holiday in France; in La Petite Venise du Languedoc. Sête, like Venice, has an extensive network of canals. People still use them, but on Bastille Day, they were filled with traditional canal boat jousting sessions.

Hoang and I ate the local specialty, tielles which are tomatoey octopus pies while imbibing too much beer. It was a perfect day weather-wise and I think we were the only Americans in town. In other words, it was perfect… Just like our massive seafood feast as you’ll see below. The night was capped with an impressive fireworks show to boot.
