Over the years, I’ve waffled on how soon I should start reviewing new breweries and their brews. In the restaurant world, it is common (professional) practice to wait a goodly while.

But I’m not a professional. Moreover, I’ve known the head brewer at Steady Habit for a couple years and I was confident his beer would be good from the get-go. This may come as a surprise to some of you nascent Connecticut CRAFTBEEROMGLOCAL! Folks – since you didn’t see Steady Habit coming – but whatever. Let me do what I do.

I also had the privilege to check out the brewery a month or two before it opened. During that visit, Jon let me sample a couple of his projects and I knew immediately the “real stuff” would be top tier.

Okay, I didn’t really know that, but I had a gut feeling. And lest any of you aforementioned nascent Connecticut CRAFTBEEROMGLOCAL! Folks think that my friendship with 1/3 of the Steady Habit ownership team will color my reviews then, well, then you don’t know me at all.

(Of course, many of you are the same people who checked in “Our First Mistake” positively on Untappd – which is hilarious, by the way. And another reason I like Jon.)

I’m writing this after Steady Habit has only been open for a grand total of 8 hours or so. Even so, I see big things for these guys down along the Connecticut River in a beautiful part of the state.
