Willimantic Brewing Company

It’s Great… Except For The Being-In-Willimantic Part
Willimantic Restaurant & Pub Brewery, Willimantic

First Visit, August 25, 2007

brew1b.jpgEdHill and I ended our full day of museums here, at the expansive pub/restaurant. This place brews over a dozen different handcrafted varieties of beer each month. They are housed in a historic granite and limestone 1909 US Post Office Building, which was abandoned in 1967 and left vacant for 30 years.

The restaurant/pub have retained the early 20th century architecture and kept some of the post office memorabilia. But it’s the 60 feoot mahogany bar that is the centerpiece of the building. Well, that… and the beer. Okay, that, the beer… and the ad for the upcoming Woodstock Fair featuring some guy from the New Kids on the Block AND Quiet Riot:

Funny thing… Ed and I didn’t eat anything and only had one small beer. In other words, that’s hardly enough to file a true report from one of CT’s rare real brewpubs… Rest assured, we’ll be back – and we’ll be sampling.

I went to college at ECSU, which is about a 3 minute walk from here. We went here every thursday night. The waiters were always so awesome, plus we didnt have to worry about drunk driving since we could walk with ease back and forth. Furthermore, try the “beer butter” next time with some bread. Amazing.
