Eagle Rock

Fly Eagle Fly!
Route 66

Hebron, just north of Marlborough line

While I have absolutely no facts backing me up, I’m going to guess this is the oldest of our roadside painted rocks. Equally handsome from either direction, Eagle Rock stands sentry near the Hebron/Marlborough line.

With Marlborough having so little to offer CTMQ, I was really hoping this guy was on that side of the line. Alas, it isn’t. Which leaves Marlborough with pretty much nothing other than a piece of the Shenipsit Trail.

It is my understanding that it was a very talented graduating senior from RHAM high school who painted that rock. He was going to Florida for collage and was given permission by the town to paint the rock as his parting gift.

Whoa! In response to your comment about Marlborough having so little to offer: The Marlborough Arts Center is located just outside town on North Main Street. Unfortunately our hours are limited because we are run solely by volunteers, but classes, workshops and events are posted on our website: http://www.MarlboroughArts.org. We are housed in a renovated historic building there. Hope you can stop in and see us sometime.

I read one time that this rock was painted in 1988. The “dog rock” in Preston was painted in 1935 so it is much older than Eagle rock.
