Avon Land Trust Trails

Avon Land Trust Trails
Avon (duh)

Here at CTMQ, it’s not all about the CFPA CT400 Trails (here). Oh no. I quickly came to learn that there are many other very worthy areas in which to hike when I stumbled on some Simsbury Land Trust Trails years ago. They were excellent; very well marked and maintained and with great views and the hiking was challenging to boot. So one day I decided to not discriminate against non-CFPA trails and that decision opened up a whole other world to me. I made the VERY conscious decision to not obsess over hiking ever inch of these non-CFPA, non-reward trails. Rather, I’d do my best to sample them and really only highlight what they have to offer here on CTMQ. I think that’s fair. (Besides, with these types of entities, the properties are quite changeable and nearly impossible to really nail down anyway.)

Trails and Maps

Avon, just over “the mountain” from my house, is an affluent town that really isn’t all that exciting to me. But who cares, right. They have a land trust who maintain some trails – one of which is excellent – so let’s get to ‘em. At the time of this writing, the ALT offers 3 trail maps on their blog. Because I’m me, I’ve been given some other “secret” ALT maps. I’ve also been told they really aren’t worth my time, so we’ll see what happens.

um, not to be mean to avon or anything, but don’t you think they could afford some nicer maps on the Land Trust pages? like, ones that don’t look like they were drawn in microsoft word by a drunk blind person? just saying.

There are worse. Believe me, there are worse.
