SCRCOG & SCCRWA Trails
OMG STFU, SRSLY?
South Central Regional Council of Governments or the South Central Connecticut Regional Water Authority
Yes. Yes, title, yes.
Which do you want first? SCRCOG or SCCRWA? Of course, as you know, the SCCRWA properties and trails are part of the SCRCOG properties and trails. (And a bunch of these are also on Land Trust properties and some are part of the CFPA Trail network, but let’s ignore that for now.)
So, I guess I’ll list out the SCRCOG trails and just denote which ones are SCCRWA trails. Fair enough? Good.
I can’t write another sentence without giving a shout out to one Eugene Livshits from the SCRCOG who, a few years ago before their website was so excellent, helped point me to this list. That’s right, I said Eugene Livshits. What of it? (his email is elivshits which I can’t help but read as “evil…”)
Anyway, he’s a good man.
You can find a full color map and property description for every one of these places here. And that makes me very happy. (Though not happy enough to link each one individually. I’ve livshits to do.)
Here’s the South Central Connecticut Regional Water Authority stuff. To access the RWA trails, you need to buy a permit good for either one year or two. And from what I gather, they patrol and police their land pretty regularly – so just buy the permit.

The Regional Trails Mapping Project was completed by SCRCOG’s staff and Open Space Subcommittee in collaboration with municipal staff, local land trusts and conservation commissions, Birmingham Utilities, and the Regional Water Authority. The project was made possible through a grant from the National Recreational Trails Program, the Federal Highway Administration, and the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection. The trail brochures include a map of the trail, descriptive information, directions, parking information and permitted uses. All trail brochures are available for download and are best printed double sided.
